Connecting a Live Encoder to Auto-DJ in CentovaCast
Combining Auto-DJ with live encoder broadcasting allows your station to stay online around the clock
while still supporting live shows. When a presenter goes live, Auto-DJ steps aside.
When the live session ends or disconnects, Auto-DJ automatically resumes playback.
This hybrid setup is the most popular configuration for professional radio stations,
as it provides reliability, flexibility, and built-in fallback protection.
It also enables the use of dedicated DJ accounts with custom permissions and schedules.
Supported Encoder Software
Live shows are broadcast using encoder applications.
Commonly used free encoder options include:
- Rocket Broadcaster (Windows)
- BUTT – Broadcast Using This Tool (Windows, macOS)
- LadioCast (macOS)
Any encoder compatible with Shoutcast or Icecast protocols can be used with CentovaCast.
Preparing CentovaCast for DJ Connections
Begin by signing in to your CentovaCast control panel.
Login credentials are provided via email after account creation,
and direct access is also available through the Client Area.
Ensure that Auto-DJ is enabled and fully configured before proceeding,
as DJ connections rely on Auto-DJ being active.
Creating a DJ Account
DJ accounts allow individual presenters to connect to your stream using their own credentials.
These accounts are managed directly inside CentovaCast.
To create a DJ account, navigate to:
CentovaCast → Configuration → DJs → Create DJ Account
During setup, you will be able to define access permissions and streaming restrictions.
DJ Account Permission Settings
Each DJ account can be assigned specific privileges, allowing you to control
what actions a DJ is allowed to perform.
Tip: Multiple permissions can be selected at once by holding the Ctrl key.
| Permission | Function |
|---|---|
| Start / Stop Stream | Allows control over the streaming server status |
| Start / Stop Auto-DJ | Allows enabling or disabling Auto-DJ only |
| Edit Playlists | Grants access to Auto-DJ playlist configuration |
| Media Library Access | Allows adding or removing audio files |
| Assign Media to Playlists | Allows newly uploaded files to be placed into playlists |
| Full FTP Access | Grants FTP access to the entire media directory |
| Private FTP Directory | Limits FTP access to a personal DJ folder |
| View Statistics | Allows viewing listener and playback data |
| View Active Listeners | Displays currently connected listeners |
| View Logs | Grants access to server log files |
Restricting DJ Login Times
Login restrictions allow you to define specific days and time windows
during which a DJ is permitted to broadcast.
If a DJ attempts to connect outside their assigned schedule,
the connection will be refused automatically.
This feature is especially useful when managing multiple presenters,
as it prevents scheduling conflicts and overlapping shows.
Tip: Multiple days can be selected by holding the Ctrl key.
Retrieving DJ Connection Details
To view the connection credentials for a DJ account, go to:
CentovaCast → General → Quick Links → When Auto-DJ is Running
Typical DJ connection settings are listed below:

the Shoutcast v1 protocol by default.
Connecting to the Stream Using a DJ Account
Once your DJ account is created, you can connect using any supported encoder.
The process is similar to standard live streaming, with one key difference:
- The password combines the DJ username and password, separated by a colon
- No username field is required in the encoder
